Education Abroad

We partner with educators to design student travel and study abroad programs led by local teams in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico

Educational Travel Programs

Locally led programs that connect students to communities

We work with universities, study abroad offices, and faculty to design customized study abroad and service learning programs that integrate real-world experiences to complement and enhance classroom learning. We also work with K-12 educators looking to bring students abroad for service learning or cultural exchange. Every program is built around your learning objectives and led by local staff who live and work in the places your students will visit. Whether your focus is marine biology, public health, cultural studies, or community development, we'll build a short term study abroad program that connects your curriculum to real-world experiences.

Our team handles all logistics from arrival through departure so you can focus on your students. Programs combine service learning, cultural immersion, and hands-on activities, all guided by people with deep knowledge of the communities we visit.

Community-driven service learning

Community-driven service learning

Every service project is part of a long-term Community Impact Plan developed in collaboration with local stakeholders. We work with community partners like FUNDEMAR to identify projects that address real local priorities, and we design the experience so students are learning about the social, economic, and political context of the work they're doing.

Our Process

How it works

From discovery to delivery, we're by your side

1

Discovery call

We start by understanding your learning objectives, student group, timeline, and budget. Whether you're planning a spring break service trip, a semester program, or a summer course abroad, we'll discuss what matters most to you and your educational institution. This conversation helps us determine fit and gives you a clear sense of what's possible in each destination.

2

Proposal and customization

Within 10-14 days, you'll receive a detailed proposal including accommodations, activities, service projects, meals, transportation, and pricing — built specifically for your program. We'll refine the itinerary based on your feedback, adjusting until every day supports your curriculum and student outcomes. Your program manager will work closely with you throughout this process.

3

Pre-travel support

Once the program is finalized, we provide pre-departure materials for you and your students — packing lists, cultural context guides, and educational preparation resources. We can join planning calls, host webinars, or conduct orientation sessions with your group. We coordinate all logistics leading up to arrival, keeping you informed and addressing questions as they arise.

4

On-the-ground delivery

From the moment your group arrives, our local guides are with them around the clock. We manage all logistics — transportation, meals, activities, accommodations, and service projects . Your program manager and our year-round operations teams in Santo Domingo and San José are on call for any emergencies or last-minute adjustments.

5

Post-travel support

After the program, we debrief with you to discuss what worked, what could improve, and how to build on the experience for future trips. Your group receives our Community Impact Report detailing the service projects and local partnerships your students supported.

FAQs

Common questions about our education abroad services

What destinations are available?

We operate programs in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. We have year-round offices in San José and Santo Domingo. Because our staff lives and works in these communities full-time, we offer access to people, places, and partnerships that short-term operators can't replicate.

What types of educational programs do you offer?

We build custom study abroad and service learning programs for elementary, middle, and high school groups as well as colleges and universities. Programs range from week-long service trips to multi-week courses abroad, including alternative spring break programs with a service learning component. We adjust supervision levels, activity complexity, and reflection structures based on the age and experience of your students.

How do you customize programs to our curriculum?

Every program starts with your learning objectives. Tell us your course goals, disciplinary focus, and desired student outcomes and we'll design an itinerary that connects classroom concepts to real-world experiences. We've built programs around topics from sea turtle conservation to Haitian-Dominican migration to public health infrastructure in rural communities. We can also adapt programs to meet IB CAS requirements, service-learning credit frameworks, or other institutional standards.

What's included in a program?

We manage everything from arrival to departure: airport transfers, ground transportation, accommodations, all meals, activities, service projects, full-time local guides, and 24/7 emergency support. We also provide pre-departure preparation materials and post-program impact reporting. Faculty and group leaders can focus on teaching and mentoring while our team handles every logistical detail.

What group sizes can you accomodate?

We work with groups of all sizes and can manage multiple concurrent programs across our three destinations. Our year-round offices and full-time staff network allow us to scale while maintaining the quality and personal attention that make these programs effective. We'll discuss staff-to-student ratios during planning to ensure they meet your institution's requirements. Contact us to discuss your specific group size and timing.

What safety measures do you have for student groups?

Student safety is central to how we operate. Our programs are fully licensed and insured in every country where we work, and we partner with Cornerstone Safety Group for ongoing risk management consulting. We maintain comprehensive evacuation plans for every program and itinerary. All staff undergo thorough background checks and hold current CPR and First Aid certifications. Many of our staff also hold Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness Medicine certifications. We build risk management plans specific to each program, and we will change plans or itineraries if conditions warrant it. Learn more about our approach to safety.

How much does a program typically cost?

Program pricing depends on destination, duration, group size, accommodations, and the types of activities and service projects involved. We provide detailed, transparent pricing in every proposal so you know exactly what's included. Contact us for a custom quote based on your program needs.

How do you support local communities, and how do service projects work?

We hire local staff, work almost exclusively with locally owned vendors, and ensure tourism dollars stay in the communities your students visit. Every service project is part of a long-term Community Impact Plan developed with local stakeholders and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We work with community partners to identify projects that address real local priorities, whether that's housing construction in batey communities, marine conservation research with organizations like FUNDEMAR, or agricultural development. Students contribute meaningfully and receive context about the social, political, and economic dimensions of the work they're doing. We track and report measurable outcomes so your group can see the tangible results of their participation. View our Impact Report.

What pre-departure support do you provide?

We supply faculty and students with educational articles, community context guides, cultural preparation resources, and detailed packing lists before departure. We can also join planning calls, host pre-departure webinars, or conduct virtual orientations for your group.

Do you have references from current education partners?

Yes. We work with a variety of educational institutions. We're happy to connect you with current partners for candid conversations about our program quality, safety standards, and partnership approach.
