United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our community service outcomes are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a "shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.”

The United Nations General Assembly is working to address the 17 goals, which focus on creating an equitable and sustainable future, by 2030. We’re doing our part to contribute to that effort in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.

In 2025, we expanded on what we started in 2024, 2023 and 2022 by increasing our impact in the partner communities where our student volunteers serve. Continue reading below for examples of how Offbeat service projects contributed to nine of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals while also serving local community members in the places we take travelers.

A milestone year for Offbeat in Latin America.

2025 stands as a milestone year for Offbeat in Latin America. Across Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, nearly 1,300 students contributed to conservation, infrastructure development, education, and community resilience. The true impact of these programs lies not only in the physical results restored water systems, new community facilities, increasing turtle hatch survival, reforested land, and rehabilitated public spaces but also in the human connections formed along the way.

Students left with new skills, deeper global awareness, and a sense of responsibility to the world beyond their own communities. Local partners gained support, visibility, and infrastructure that remains long after the summer ends.

As Offbeat moves into the next program cycle, the lessons of 2025 will guide the enhancement of structure, communication, training, and long-term sustainability. The foundation established this year opens the door for even greater impact measurable, human, and lasting in the summers to come.
