Where can I travel with Offbeat?
We plan trips in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. We have year-round offices in San José and Santo Domingo. We're not simply booking hotels from a database — we live in these communities and we're making personalized recommendations.
What's included in a trip?
Typically, our trips include accommodations, ground transportation, airport transfers, activity bookings, and some or all meals depending on your preferences. But ultimately, this is up to you. Some travelers want a full-time local guide with them throughout the experience. Others just want everything set up and our team available if questions come up. We'll tailor the inclusions to what makes sense for your party during our initial planning conversation.
What type of accommodations are available?
It depends on what you're looking for. We work with boutique hotels, eco-lodges, private villas, and vacation homes across all three countries. Traveling with kids? We can arrange properties with kitchens, cribs, and family-friendly layouts. Looking for something more romantic or adventurous? We know those spots too. Can you accommodate dietary restrictions or food preferences?
Yes. Let us know about any allergies, dietary needs, or preferences and we'll coordinate with restaurants and accommodations ahead of time. If you're staying in a private home or villa, we can stock the kitchen before you arrive with the specific foods and drinks your party prefers. Traveling with picky eaters? We want every traveler to have a great experience, and we'll work with you to understand any mobility, sensory, or other accessibility needs before we start planning. Accessibility infrastructure varies across Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, and not every activity or property will be the right fit for every traveler. But because we know these communities firsthand, we can identify the best options available, suggest alternatives where needed, and build an itinerary that works for you. The more you share with us early on, the better we can plan.
How customized are the itineraries?

We draw on years of experience and proven itineraries across all three countries, then adjust them to fit what your party actually wants. Absolutely. We regularly plan multi-generational family trips, group vacations with friends, and couples getaways. We design itineraries with shared experiences that bring everyone together and enough flexibility for people to break off and do their own thing when they want to.
Is it safe to travel to these countries?
We take safety seriously, and you'll have a local team who knows the area by your side throughout your trip. Our operations are fully licensed and insured in every country where we work, and we partner with Cornerstone Safety Group for ongoing risk management consulting. All of our guides undergo thorough interviews, reference checks, background checks, and annual training. In addition, they hold current CPR and First Aid certifications. How does my trip support local communities?
We hire local staff, work almost exclusively with locally owned vendors, and design every trip so that travel dollars stay in the communities you're visiting. Many of our travelers also choose to add a service component or cultural immersion experience to their itinerary, and we're always happy to build that in. Those projects are part of long-term partnerships with local organizations, so your participation contributes to something ongoing and meaningful. Pricing depends on your destination, trip length, group size, accommodations, and the types of activities and level of service you want. We typically work with accommodations ranging from comfortable three-star properties to five-star experiences, and we'll match the level to your preferences and budget.
