Dominican Republic

We design cultural immersion and travel programs in the Dominican Republic for educators, families, individuals, and travel partners. Quisqueya la Bella has stories to tell.

The Dominican Republic at a glance

The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two-thirds of Hispaniola, the island it shares with Haiti. Its 800 miles of coastline run from the Atlantic in the north to the Caribbean in the south, with the Cordillera Central mountain range rising between them. Santo Domingo's Colonial Zone is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest permanent European settlement in the Americas — home to the first cathedral, university, and hospital built by colonizers in the New World. But the country's identity comes from the mix of Taíno, African, and Spanish roots that shape everything from the music to the food. Dominicans dance merengue and bachata, eat mangú for breakfast, and call the country Quisqueya la Bella — a Taíno name that means "mother of all lands."
