Jason Gamrath at Work
For a full year, Gamrath and his team worked tirelessly to create new art for this show. Gamrath begins the process by sketching the flower and scaling it to massive proportions. Then, in a furnace that is 2,100 degrees Fahrenheit, he melts clear glass rocks to make up the shape of the flower. Color and patterns are added by dusting the glass with white powder in alternating layers. When he is finished, Gamrath stores the piece in a furnace that brings the glass from 910 degrees to room temperature over the course of three days.
Following successful glass exhibitions at Phipps including Dale Chihuly, reviews describe SUPER. NATURAL. as a must-see destination that is "breathtaking," "enormous," "over the top" and "out of this world." The show appeals to families, visitors and glass artwork enthusiasts alike.
