Witness to the growth of Quebec’s brewing industry, breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs have seen the light of day in every region except the great North (James Bay, Duplessis, Manicouagan, Nunavik). At the Mondial de la bière 2010, 28 companies will represent Quebec’s brewing traditions and the craftbrewers’ know-how from 12 regions: the Eastern Townships, Charlevoix, Gaspésie, Magdalen Islands, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Laval, Mauricie, Montérégie, Montreal, Quebec and Saguenay—Lac-St-Jean. The 232 Quebec beers offered at the festival represent 41% of all registered beers this year (Canada: 8 % — International: 51 %). The Mondial de la bière is without a doubt the meeting place for the curious, but also for beer lovers, neophytes, epicures and up to the finest connoisseur! To complement your beer tastings, Biertrotters will have the opportunity of feasting on cheeses from the Quebec cheeses boutique of la Fédération des producteurs de lait du Québec or one of the 11 food kiosks where grilled meats, sausages, kangaroo, shrimps, stag, lobster sandwiches and more can be found. Vote for Your Favorite BeerThe Consumer Beer Contest enables visitors to vote for their three favorite beers in the registered beers listing. By voting, “Biertrotters” get a chance to win one of three prizes, such as: a selection of beers offered by the Mondial de la bière, a prize valued at $300. Medals will be awarded to winning brewers during the event’s closing ceremonies on Sunday, June 6th at 6:00 p.m., at the Media Group area.Buy a Souvenir Glass - Save Some PlasticThe Mondial de la bière strongly encourages its visitors to act responsibly towards the environment and purchase a souvenir glass at a cost of $8. This simple gesture will reduce the quantity of plastic cups used during the event and recycled after. The 17th edition souvenir glass is marked to receive one to two servings at 4 ounces each. In addition, those who will have purchased the 2010 souvenir glass will also receive a reusable bag at the festival’s exit.More about the Mondial de la BiereThe Mondial de la bière was founded in 1994. A unique and convivial tasting event, it’s considered to be the gateway to the Quebec and foreign brewing industries. Whether it’s through meeting with the brewers, the Consumer Beer Contest or workshops on Beer and Cheese pairings, beer lovers will now have the required tools to perfect their knowledge, make new discoveries and reinstate beer's noble status. Since 2002 and under the governance of Jeannine Marois, the Mondial has settled in the Windsor Station, in the heart of downtown Montreal. Over time, this event has become the most important festival of international beers in North America and its reputation has now traveled over to many countries.
