This Just In ...Alaska Celebrates Fifty Years of StatehoodOn January 3, 1959, Alaska became the 50th state of the United States, so the arrival of 2009 fifty years later has been a reason to celebrate.Among its anniversary commemorations thus far have been a new postage stamp, a float in the Rose Parade in Pasadena and the launching of a special website, with current news and events related to statehood celebrations. The Juneau Convention & Visitors Bureau in conjunction with Capital City Celebrations (Juneau’s 50th Year organization body) will commemorate Alaska’s 50th Anniversary of Statehood with numerous celebrations and festivities throughout the year.
Tourists will have plenty of opportunities to take part in the biggest party in 50 years. If planning an Alaska trip this spring and summer, be on the
lookout for anniversary events, as well as deals at various hotels, restaurants and activities in the area.
