Jamaican Wedding: An Affair to RememberThere's no sure fire rule that getting married on a warm tropical beach on a Caribbean Island will guarantee a successful marriage. However it will be an affair to remember. Tying the knot in Jamaica is easier then ever and your wedding can be as extravagant or simple as you like. Marsha Mattos-Gibbs, assistant sales director at the all inclusive Sunset Beach Resort and Spa in Montego Bay has been planned many Jamaican weddings. She said, "Packages are generally in the $700.00 U.S. range and we almost always have perfect weather conditions". What's the most popular wedding? She responded, "For an unforgettable experience nothing can be more seductive than a wedding on the beach with a vivid Caribbean sunset". If you do decide to take the plunge (some couples literally take a plunge into the Caribbean Sea after their marriage) there are other unique places to say yes. You can't go wrong with Round Hill Hotel and Villas overlooking Montego Bay. For more than 50 years this former 18th century pineapple and coconut plantation has lured not only lovers but the rich and famous. Take a stroll into the Georgian Dining Room and you'll see photos on the wall that attest to the fact you're in good company. It's one of Ralph Lauren's favourite restaurants (he also owns two private villas nearby). Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and his family range in the Near Year at Round Hill. Sir Paul McCartney, Pierce Brosman, Bob Hope and Burt Lancaster have hung out here. Round Hill still feels fresh after a half a century and it's an elegant piece of heaven on earth. All spacious rooms and villas overlook the Caribbean Sea and the addition of a delightful new spa in a shorefront estate home makes for serious pampering. Couples Resort in nearby Negril is the quintessential for all-inclusive romantics. This plush hotel caters exclusively to traditional couples only and is situated on 1000 feet of white sand beach. Karen Lanigan, a native Jamaican and General Manager of the hotel (she's also single and said she's had no time to get married) said, "Romance is everywhere at Couples-on the beach, in the dining room and on the dance floor and of course in the bedrooms." An all-inclusive wedding including photographs, video, minister, and certificate will run about $1000.00 U.S. Accommodations are extra. Couples Resort deserves its own red ribbon. Now if you really want something different you can get married at what Vogue magazine called, "the Chicest Shack in the Caribbean". Located at Treasure Beach, a small fishing village, on the serene South Coast of Jamaica, Jakes Village Retreat is a scenic two-hour drive from Negril. Named after a local parrot, Jakes has 13 one-bedroom units and 4 two-bedroom cottages. All of the units are an eclectic mix of colourful Jamaican, Mexican, Greek and Catalan styles. Privacy is paramount. This laid back place remains true to Jamaican simplicity, rooms do not have phones, televisions, air-conditioning but ceiling fans and ocean breezes provide natural cooling. Jakes is a very sensual place, perfect for a romantic wedding, a spiritual retreat or an adventure. You won't want to go home.
You're in for outrageously wonderful days when you get married in Jamaica.
