Cruising the Mediterranean: Consider a gulet

Cruise season in the Mediterranean is from April to November, when the weather is generally sunny and mild. One way to visit large port cities on the northern coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the countries of Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece and Turkey is on a private cruise tour. Many gulets (a classic wooden yacht built in southwest Turkey) sail the Mediterranean and offer cruises that appeal to any style and budget.

Mediterranean Islands

The beautiful coast of Croatia offers a safe and easy navigation in the crystal waters. Istria, the Croatian Riviera, and Dalmatia have a staggering 1,187 islands, of which only 67 are inhabited.

The climate is typically Mediterranean and provides a pleasant holiday throughout the year. The best season for sailing in Croatia is early summer with good winds in May and June mainly from the South/Southeast. Mornings tend to be calm with the wind increasing in the afternoon. July and August see calmer conditions perfect for those who like to do a bit of racing. Summer temperatures range between 26 and 30 degrees C ( 80 to 85 Fahrenheit) while the sea temperature in summer hovers around 25 degrres C (77 Fahrenheit).

Italy's Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean, only slightly smaller than Sicily, the largest. Located in the western part of the Mediterranean (on the west coast of the Italian peninsula) Sardinia is separated from Corsica by the narrow Strait of Bonifacio.

Dodecanese is a complex of more than 163 islands of which only 26 are inhabited. The islands are part of the eastern border of Greece with Turkey. In summer, the prevailing wind is the Meltemi blowing from the North and North West from June to October. Winters are mild and summer temperatures can go up to 35 degrees C. (95 degrees Fahrenheit).

Taking a Gulet Cruise

Cruising the Mediterranean: Consider a gulet
Private gulet cruises offer many types of budget accommodation. These double-masted sailing ships measure 45 to 115 feet in length and exude atmosphere and the charm of old world cruising.

Our private gulet cruises offer a more sophisticated and elegant way to navigate with excellent facilities. Guests can enjoy on-board entertainment, spas and sophisticated cuisines. Every room in the gulet offers views of the sea. Air conditioning (recommended at certain times during the year) is also available in each cabin.

Recreational activities on board include fishing, swimming, windsurfing, canoeing. There's even snorkeling and diving available on some cruises. And, if you really want to visit hidden inlets along the coast of the Aegean Sea, our private gulet cruises are a perfect choice. Prices will vary with the number of guests, the cruise length, and whether it is the off season.

Private gulet cruises offer an outstanding experience even if your time is limited.
